So highlighter, I love it but as you know I’m a very picky person and though I love a bright bold highlighter, I don’t want that every day. What I do want is a natural healthy look, which believe it or not is hard to find.
I have tried lots of different ones that claim to be dewy and natural but generally, it just looks like I have chucked glitter on my face, which trust me isn’t a good look if you’re going for a natural lit from within look.
Also, I have found that even though brands put the words dewy, natural and seamless on their packaging this is usually not the case as I have tried many Dewy highlighters that were just as obvious as the usual ones on the market.
I had heard mainly good reviews of the Glossier Highlighter but I was slightly hesitant to buy it as I like to try out products before purchasing and as Glossier is only online in the UK I didn’t want to make the same mistake I have made on a number of occasions when buying makeup online. But as I have tried a number of highlighters that just weren’t what I was looking for I decided to bite the bullet and just buy it.
This product cost £18 for 5.5g so I was really hoping I was going to like it as it’s a good chunk of change to waste.
When I received my products ( I bought some other things too see review Here) I was pleasantly surprised about the packaging you get stickers and a cute pink ziplock bag that looks perfect for travelling all of this I feel is a really nice touch and I also appreciated the sample that I received with my purchase.
There are three shades of Glossier highlighter, Topaz, ( sun-kissed glow) Quartz ( pearlescent highlight) and Moonstone ( a glazed highlight) I decided to go for Quarts as it looked like it would flatter my skin tone the most but I do think all three shades would look good on an Array of different skin tones.
I was very intrigued by the ingredients of this product as it contains Coconut and Castor Oil, Almond Oil and Actual Crystals! I know this threw me off a bit, but the highlighter Quarts actually has real Rose Quartz in it which I wasn’t expecting but it is very cool. Also, all Glossier products are Hypoallergenic, Dermatologist-Tested, Paraben-Free, Fragrance-Free and of course Cruelty-Free.
The packaging of this product is signature Glossier very minimal and sleek with only slight branding, I love the fact that this is in stick form and that the lid is so secure you don’t mind just chucking it into your bag before running out the door.
Now onto the good stuff! Is it actually a natural looking highlighter? Yes, I have finally found a daily highlight which isn’t overpowering and actually makes my skin look healthy. The colour Quartz is beautiful with a slight hint of pink that isn’t too noticeable, it definitely gives you a lit from within look with minimal sparkles involved. This product is perfectly in-between as its noticeable but still seamless and natural, it looks beautiful on the cheeks and cupids bow. You get the full effect when it hits the light but otherwise looks very minimal.
The application of this Glossier highlighter is very easy and perfect for people that are on the go as it is in stick form and all you need to do is swipe it on your cheekbones and any other desired area, then simply pat to blend. The formula also helps with the application as on the inner ring of the product is the oils and other things that help it glide on your skin and stay looking hydrated, and the outer ring is the subtle pink colour.
If you want to step it up a bit for a special occasion I was happy to discover that this product is buildable and in only four light swipes I had built it up to a full on party highlight, which I didn’t think it could do. But it shows that this highlight is very versatile and can be used on a night out or every day.
So I have to confess that the staying power with this highlighter isn’t the best, its never there at the end of the day but its also not smudged down your face or looks awful, it’s just simply not there. I was definitely expecting this not to last that long so I’m not ridiculously disappointed though of course, I wish it would last all day its very easily reapplied, even over makeup. I just dab a bit on my finger put it on my cheekbones and cupids bow and it is perfectly fine.
Overall I wouldn’t bother with any other so-called Dewy highlighters on the market, just buy this Glossier highlighter It’s a shame you have to compromise on wear time but to be honest it isn’t such a big deal when you finally get your hands on a natural looking everyday highlight that generally gives you a healthy looking glow. Do any of you know of a good cruelty-free dupe for this glossier highlighter? Please tell me in the comments as I have tried a lot but never found one. Thanks for reading Xxx
