I’ve been trying to have a more clean skincare routine with no horrible hidden toxic ingredients and I’ve done really well cutting out a lot of brands and products but I’ve completely neglected my hair care products!
Your scalp is surprisingly very absorbent so you don’t want crap in your hair care! so what ingredients do you need to stay away from?
I’m always careful to look at the ingredient’s in my skincare but in my hair care not so much, these are the things that if you see them on your shampoo bottle you should run a mile.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Or Sodium Laureth (SLS) –
Found in many cleaning products, the sodium and ammonium laureate sulfates are known cancer-causing ingredients and can cause liver damage, skin rashes, depression, diarrhoea and eye damage in some people.
In skincare and haircare you really REALLY don’t want fragrance it may make your product smell nice but it can clog the lymphatic system and induce major organ system toxicity.
Another ingredient you really don’t want, it can accumulate in our fat cells and keep our body in the state of toxicity it can also irritate your eyes and lungs.
Mainly found in conditioner’s it leaves residue on the scalp, disrupts the skins natural pH and destroys the natural protective barrier of your skin, the worst is Polysorbate-80 but they’re all very bad for you so it safer to stay away from them.
A preservative used in a lot of cosmetics, as well as hair care products, can cause organ system toxicity and the shutdown of the central nervous system.
Another preservative used in hair products which can cause organ system Toxicity.
It’s a silicone oil that can make the scalp incredibly dry and irritated, it can form a plastic-like barrier on your scalp which traps bacteria and sebum irritating your skin further.
These are just a few of the ingredients that you should try and stay away from, I have started to use a more Eco-Friendly, Cruelty-Free brand Faith In Nature which is also Vegan. My favourite is the grapefruit and orange shampoo and conditioner.
I also now like to be able to understand a least half of the ingredient’s list for my own peace of mind and Faith In Nature are very open about what they put in their products and promise to have No animal testing, Genetically modified ingredients, Synthetic colouring or fragrances, SLS or parabens, Artificial preservatives and no Methylisothiazolinone ( big word but basically MI)
This gives me peace of mind about the brand so I don’t have to scour through all the ingredients every time I pick up one of their products.
Please do your own research on bad ingredients it is very important to know what we’re all putting into our body’s, I for one have always tried to eat clean, healthy food but that’s no good if you just have crap absorbing into your skin on a daily basis. Thanks For Reading Xxx
